Mario Ronconi, of Italian nationality, studied Political Science, with specialisation on Macro-Economic Policies, and Economic and Juridical Studies, at the Universities of Padova and Rome respectively. His professional experience includes the following positions: Assistant Researcher at the University of Padova, Political Science Faculty International Studies Department (1987-1990), Head of Section, Eastern Europe-CIS-Russia, External Relations Department of the Chamber of Commerce of Milano, Italy (1990-1996), and Deputy Secretary General (Deputy Director) of the Chamber of Commerce of Lecco, Italy (1996-1997).
He joined the European Commission in December 1997. He was Team Leader, Sustainable Development at European Commission EUROSTAT (1997-2002), Head of Operations Section: Investments/Cross Border Cooperation, Energy, Transport, Agriculture, S&T, Municipal Services at the European Commission, Moscow Delegation (2002-2006), and Head of Sector and Deputy Head of Unit at DEVCO Geo coordination Central Asia, Middle East/Gulf, Asia Regional Programmes, EuropeAid, European Commission (2006-2015). Since May 2015 he is Head of Cooperation – Head of Unit at the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh.
